Arizona could soon adopt Bitcoin as its legal tender

Bitcoin may soon be accepted as a legal tender in one of the United States states, Arizona. A bill has been proposed by Wendy Rogers, an Arizona state senator, to make Bitcoin legal tender in the state. If approved, the law will stretch the scope of legal money in the state to include Bitcoin. Rogers has already voiced her desire for the state to become more crypto-friendly in the past.

Arizona can change the definition of legal tender in the U.S.

Arizona, which has more national monuments and parks than any other state in the United States, is considering making Bitcoin legal tender. 

Legal tender in this state consists of all the following:

“Any medium of exchange that is authorized by the United States Constitution or Congress for the payments of public charges, debts, taxes, and dues… Bitcoin.”

If the amendment is passed into law, Arizona will be the first U.S. state to have Bitcoin as its legal tender. Senator Rogers, the bill’s originator, has long advocated for making the state more crypto-friendly. Last September, she was assigned to the Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Study Committee.

Nevertheless, the bill is being introduced at a time when the United States federal government is planning to crack down on Bitcoin and other digital assets. 

Bitcoin may be making inroads into more countries

Several U.S. states, on the other hand, have been more friendly to Bitcoin. Texas, which already accepts Bitcoin legally, may consider making it legal tender as well. Florida and Wyoming are two more states that may be considering the move. These states’ governments have been encouraging cryptocurrency investors and Bitcoin miners to establish a presence in their jurisdictions.

As TheCoinRise reported, Brazil also indicated its plans on adopting Bitcoin as its legal tender while the government of Zimbabwe is also exploring ways to adopt the king coin.
