Discord stops its crypto plans, but there is some future scope

The social messaging platform Discord was all set for its imminent integration with Wallet Connect and Metamask as the company’s CEO and founder tweeted a photo suggesting the same. But the negative reactions to the tweet made the CEO reanalyze the situation. And now, just after three days of the signal, there are speculations that the company has put its crypto plans on hold.

The company’s CEO, Jason Citron’s innocent post gathered so many negative responses. One of them is:

“Say goodbye to artists ever sharing their artwork online, let alone in Discord. Reposters were bad enough, but this is the next level. If people can just right click and sell your artwork for “ownership” when you’re the one who spent dozens of hours creating it, what’s the point.”

If one looks into Discord’s support channel, they can easily spot tons of posts by unhappy users urging the company against its decision on integration.

Discord CEO says it has ‘no current plans to ship’

The firm may be halting its plans about crypto features after the intense pushback from the Discord community for the time being. It is almost confirmed by the CEO’s statement saying that the company has” no current plans to ship” the crypto wallet integration.

The word “current” here seems interesting as the company could revisit its plans and might have some future vision on the same.

The crypto critics in the community now have a good reason to threaten the company to cancel their Nitro subscription, which is the company’s premium service and the primary source of income.

Along with that, after September’s $500 million investment by Dragoneer Investment Group, Discord is now valued at $15 billion.

It is expected that the company takes some serious expert advice instead of listening to the invaluable fast-growing user base. But as per the various hints, it looks like Discord is still not done with crypto and has long-term plans for the platform.
