Elon Musk, current CEO of Twitter, now X Corp has named Linda Yaccarino the new CEO of the company. Accordingly, Yaccarino is expected to begin her duties in six weeks.
Musk made the announcement on his official Twitter account, emphasizing that his role will be converted to Executive Chair and CTO, with responsibility for product, software, and sysops.
Interestingly, the news does not come as a surprise because Musk hinted in December that he will stand down as CEO once a suitable replacement was found.
Based on recent developments, Elon Musk will formally switch from Twitter to X Corp next week on May 18, in accordance with the terms and conditions.
Meanwhile, the terms of service, privacy policy, and data processing agreement have already been updated to reflect the name change. Twitter Inc. has informed the courts that its new company name, X Corp, will be managed in Nevada rather than Twitter’s previous Delaware domicile, according to reports.
Notably, Yaccarino has extensive experience in the media and advertising businesses, both of which are intimately tied to the social media scene.
She has held many senior positions at NBCUniversal, including President of Advertising Sales and Client Partnerships, and is currently the Chairman of Global Advertising and Partnerships.
Yaccarino’s experience in advertising and partnerships could be beneficial to Twitter, as advertising accounts for a substantial chunk of the platform’s earnings. Additionally, she has also worked with content creators and media firms, which might be important as Twitter expands its video and other media services.
It’s worth mentioning that Twitter has dealt with concerns with free speech and content management in the past. Recall, that President Biden remarked that the platform is an outfit for spreading false information globally.
While the platform has always prioritized free expression, it has also established a variety of restrictions and tools to combat concerns such as hate speech, harassment, and misinformation.
It is, therefore, possible that Yaccarino might continue to shape the platform’s approach to content control and free expression.
The internet community has responded to the announcement from Elon Musk with varied emotions. While some have expressed their excitement, others believe she was appointed for political purposes.
