France Says It’ll Block Facebook Libra Development in Europe
Agence France-Presse (AFP) has reported today, Sept. 12, that France plans to block the development of Libra — Facebook’s proposed stablecoin payments network — in Europe.
An unconfirmed report from BreakingtheNews.net claims that the position was revealed by French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire, who has allegedly argued that the country cannot permit the launch of Facebook Libra Development in Europe because the “monetary sovereignty of states is at stake.”

Arab News’ coverage aligns closely with these reports. The newspaper cites Le Maire’s apparently resolute stance — apparently delivered at the opening of the OECD Global Blockchain Policy Forum 2019 in Paris — as follows:
“I want to be absolutely clear: in these conditions, we cannot authorize the Libra Development on European soil.”
This summer, U.S. lawmakers had expressed their persistent “concerns […] with allowing a large tech company to create a privately controlled, alternative global currency.”
