Fresh Del Monte Invests 39% Stake in Decapolis For Traceability Solution

Leading fruit and vegetable producer Fresh Del Monte Produce has partnered with food product technology company Decapolis to introduce blockchain traceability solutions for consumers.

In effect, Fresh Del Monte Produce has invested 39% of its stakes in the Jordanian and UK-based startup technology company, Decapolis.

Fresh Del Monte Produce is one of the world’s leading vertically integrated producers, distributors, and marketers of fresh and fresh-cut fruits and vegetables. Together with Decapolis, Del Monte plans to provide end-to-end traceability for customers. This will not be the first time Decapolis is introducing such technology.

The blockchain-based traceability solution is dubbed Decapolis Food Guard (DFG). it will first be used in the Del Monte pineapple operations in Costa Rica. Thereafter, it will cut across all the Fresh Del Monte business segments.

The DFG will capture all necessary information about the fruit or vegetable from the time of production till it gets to the table.

Retrieval of such information will be through the scanning of QR codes. As per the published statement, ”anyone who scans the QR code will be able to see a complete log of product information from farm to fork. This traceability process allows for trusted record keeping in the supply chain, whether it impacts consumer knowledge, food safety, or quality analysis.”

Decapolis Confident in its Traceability Solution

Successfully, the food tech company has developed and deployed this traceability solution across both private and public sectors in about four continents of the world. The firm has expressed confidence in its capacity to deliver the intended solution to Del Monte customers.

“We are in the business of doing good. We embark on this endeavor with full confidence in our company, our offerings, our service, and the people we serve,” said Decapolis founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abedalrhman Habashneh, ”It will surely be a promising and fruitful venture, a force multiplier to work that positively impacts communities, families, and the future of healthy living and technology for good. We remain steadfast in moving towards our vision of becoming the leading global reference platform for compliance and certification for food trade worldwide.”

Del Monte regards this as part of its technology-driven mission to offer best-in-class, innovative solutions for its products and services, and to provide sustainable solutions that other businesses and industries can benefit from.

This partnership between Fresh Del Monte and Decapolis goes to show that blockchain adoption is gaining ground across the world. Warner Music Group recently partnered with Non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace OpenSea to offer its artists more Web3.0 experiences.
