While global search interest for the keywords “metaverse” and “NFT” spiked in the fourth quarter of 2021, Google Trends data suggests that the craze has faded away since February 2022.
According to Google Trends, searches for “metaverse” increased in popularity in the fourth quarter of 2021. However, since the beginning of 2022, search interest has been declining, with the lowest point for the year occurring in March.
Aside from the keyword “metaverse,” the data shows that global searches for “NFT” have begun to fall this year. The reduction in NFT, on the other hand, is more evident since it hit record highs in 2021 before plummeting in the first quarter of 2022.
In Google Trends for the search “metaverse,” people from Turkey have topped the interest-by-region class for the past year. The country has surpassed China and Singapore, which are placed at the second and third spots on the list. Cyprus and Lebanon are ranked 4th and 5th, respectively.
Singapore, on the other hand, has topped the interest-by-region list for the keyword “NFT” over the past 12 months. Hong Kong, China, Canada, and the Philippines are the next countries on the list.
A report by TheCoinRise from November reveals that Asian countries dominate Google search trends for NFTs.
For the first time in December, “NFT” surpassed “crypto” in global search attention. Moreover, monthly trading volume on the NFT marketplace OpenSea reached a new all-time high in January. The rise in search volume and trading activity for the keyword indicates that NFTs have finally attracted the general public’s attention.
The rise in popularity of nonfungible tokens in 2021 has been ascribed to some of the largest NFT drops in the previous year, as well as celebrities who have begun to offer their own collections.
Many figures sparked interest in NFTs last year, from renowned rappers like Snoop Dogg and Eminem to marketing experts like Gary Vaynerchuk. Not only stars but major brands like McDonald’s and Adidas have also entered the space by launching their own collections.
