Internet Computer plans to use $250M to help Ukraine in a unique way

The support for Ukraine is continuously rising with the public blockchain network for smart contracts, Internet Computer (ICP) being another addition to the list of major contributors of crypto donations. ICP and DFINITY founder Dominic Williams announced that the company is planning to help Ukraine via smart contracts and $250 million worth of cryptocurrencies.

ICP, which was launched in May last year, is a public blockchain and protocol with the aim to decentralize the internet.

Russia should know what is really happening in Ukraine

The proposal by the founder mainly aims to inform Russia — who he said is in a completely ignorant state — on the reality of what’s actually going on in Ukraine. This, according to him, would encourage them to pressurize the Russian government to stop the war. He writes, “we should not hold out too much hope that sanctions alone will turn the Russian population against their leaders, for the simple reason that they control their media, which dutifully pumps out carefully-crafted propaganda and false information.”

Interestingly, as TheCoinRie reported, despite the ongoing heavy dispute, Ukraine has officially legalized the crypto industry.

The plan claims that blockchain technology and smart contracts could be used to bring together massive groups of verified Russian citizens in virtual reality parties called “people parties” to watch “informative media” about the war:

“Each attendee who proves personhood using the people party system is then identified to smart contracts as an individual human being. The system prevents cheating, such that on each run, a person is only able to attend exactly once,” Williams explains.

The post said that the smart contracts would eventually create a new crypto account for each successful attendee, which they could access and manage via an “Internet Identity.”

Williams suggests that crypto incentives in assets like Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), which it recently planned to add, be used to incentivize citizens. Because pin numbers attached to their identities would not be unlocked until all of the content was consumed, each Russian citizen would be obliged to watch the videos till the end.
