John Legend Joins the NFT-Bandwagon with OurSong Debut

John Legend, a music superstar credited for winning the Grammy Award about 12 times, is starting a Non-Fungible Token (NFT) platform. As reported by Bloomberg, the platform, called OurSong, is a joint venture with Chris Lin, who runs Taipei-based digital music service KKBOX, Twitch cofounder Kevin Lin and Matt Cheng of early-stage venture firm Cherubic Ventures.

OurSong is dedicated to musicians, and entertainers around the world, especially those finding it hard to navigate the fast-growing NFT world. Through the platform, artists can convert clips of their songs or creative works into NFTs and trade them.

“It can be really intimidating for an emerging creative who wants to share their art, their work with the world, share their creativity with the world, but they feel like they can’t possibly do something that’s going to be worth that much money,” Legend said in an interview. “Some of them are building that up to a place where they’re even making a living off of their art as students.”

Drawing on his popularity, Legend will play the role of the platform’s Chief Impact Officer with the primary responsibility of attracting young artists new to the NFT space. Chris Lin, who will man the affairs of the startup as its Chief Executive Officer said the platform will operate without a digital wallet as is commonplace with most decentralized finance and NFT marketplaces. For Chris, the user-friendliness of OurSong takes precedence over any other thing.

Like Tom Brady Like John Legend

It is no longer news that progressive thinking celebrities are now making their marks in the world of Non-Fungible Tokens, as they look for avenues to revamp the sports and entertainment industries with blockchain technology.

As TheCoinRise reported earlier, Tom Brady announced his retirement from the NFL earlier this week to focus his attention on his family and his NFT startup Autograph, a move that draws on its earlier love for Bitcoin. While John Legend is not necessarily retiring from music, his embrace of NFTs is to explore avenues to help the world stay more connected.

“I’ve always been so focused on music and I still think of music as, far and away, my first love and my first job and the thing I spent most of my mental energy thinking about,” said Legend. “When I think about what I want to do, I try to get involved with projects that I think will make the world more connected.”
