Mercedes-Benz Files for 5 NFT-Related Trademarks

Mercedes-Benz Group AG, a German company, is the most recent automobile business to make advances in the metaverse by its recent filings with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) include five trademark applications related to the metaverse and NFT.

Each of the five trademark applications for “Mercedes Benz,” “Mercedes,” “S-Class,” “G-Class,” and “Maybach” secures the Mercedes name and logo for use in future NFT collections, NFT marketplaces, and virtual automobile part sales, and paves the way for cryptocurrency trading.

One trademark application for the Maybach model of the company’s car detailed its ambitions to sell “crypto-collectibles” such as digital or physical animal furs, blankets, carpets, rugs, and mats.

In another filing, the company hinted that its “S-Class” line would include “audio recordings, video recordings, image files, music, and multimedia files containing artwork, text, audio, images, or video featuring collectible items authenticated by NFTs.”

The applications claim that these NFTs “featuring digital art” or “representing a collectible item” are “for use in online virtual worlds,” a reference to metaverses.

Mercedes Bullish on Metaverse

In the beginning of this year, the Mercedes affiliate Daimler South East Asia created a blockchain-based data sharing system that was built on Polygon.

Information related to insurance policies and clinical studies can be shared between companies on this platform.

In 2021, FTX and Mercedes-Benz joined forces for marketing and the release of an NFT collection for fans. Toto Wolff, the company’s former CEO, predicted earlier this year that the cryptocurrency business would thrive in the future since cryptocurrencies are a part of “the modern technology.”

However, after the reports that the Mercedes Formula One team planned to keep the company’s logo on its racing cars for the time being despite the demise of the FTX bitcoin exchange, it suspended the sponsorship and removed the FTX logo from race vehicles.
