Mongoose Coin emerges after a Congressman jokes about it

Brad Sherman, California’s democratic representative this Wednesday, joked about how senseless a “Mongoose Coin” would be, and on Friday, it became a reality.

Sherman, during the House Financial Services Committee hearing on cryptocurrency this Wednesday, told a story about an old woman who eats bigger and bigger creatures to devour the animals she already swallowed.

He compared it to cryptocurrencies like DOGE and SHIB defeating each other, noting that Bitcoin (BTC) might be overtaken by Ethereum (ETH), which could subsequently be unseated by Dogecoin (DOGE), Hamster Coin, and finally Cobra Coin.

He wondered aloud, “What might Mongoose Coin do to Crypto Coin?” Of course, the African mammal is known for eating other creatures, particularly cobra snakes.

With their sense of humor maintained, the crypto community reacted by minting a set of tokens related to his statements on Avalanche (AVAX), Polygon (MATIC), and Binance Smart Chain (BSC) overnight.

Mongoose Coin ($MONG) was the very first coin to arrive, with a total market capitalization of $18.74 million and a little under 3000 holders. The token’s Twitter bio reads, “Named by Congress. Made by the Mongress.”

Mongoose Coin depicts a fight against regulators

The Mongoose coin published a post on Medium outlining its roadmap. It says that $MONG is a movement to start a fight against regulators for a common goal and freedom.

Several more iterations of Mongoose coin also came out, such as GOOSE growing by more than 48,000% in the last 24 hours. MONG has also surged its price by more than 6000%. Other spin-offs include Son of Mongoose ($SOM) and Babu Mongoose ($BMONGO).

Sherman further said jokingly:

“Will Mongoose coin always have a value? I don’t know. I just made it up. It’s a joke.”

He went on to say that it is not justified to compare the current system of fiat currencies to what crypto aspires to be.

Before this, the real Wolf of Wall Street, Jordan Belfort, said that meme coin founders should be imprisoned for only thinking about themselves. He also said that these meme coins affect the gracefulness of legit coins like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Along with that, interbank payments service provider, SWIFT called cryptocurrencies useless and unstable.
