NBA merch designer brings FCG, a platform that uses blockchain to fight against world hunger

Shawn Kurz developed FoodChain Global or FCG, a nonprofit that employs a blockchain-based ecosystem to assist charitable projects addressing global hunger. Kurz aims to address the limitations of traditional charity systems when he’s not making merchandise for the NBA or supplying coffee to major retailers.

FCG has produced digital asset products such as FoodChain Global token (FOOD) and non-fungible tokens (NFT) with the support of former military systems engineer Cody Boyd, who leads a blockchain development team. He uses the sales profits to provide food to food banks.

FCG aims to involve the younger generation in fighting global hunger

During an interview with Cointelegraph, Kurz said that the FCG intends to engage younger generations in the fight against global hunger. The team aspires to offer digital solutions that speak to Millennials and GenZ, who are engaged in technology.

“We need to relate and provide products to future generations to continue to tackle the global hunger crisis but, at the same time, make the products engaging and interactive.” 

According to Kurz, many existing blockchain projects, particularly meme coins, have next to no real-world use case. He wants the community to get over the hype and have strong corporate leaders explain the technology’s positive aspects.

FCG currently has Polygon-based FOOD tokens, NFTs, and crypto merchandise clothing stores available. The Daily Bread Food Bank and Haven on the Queensway receive the food with the earnings.

FCG offers tangible proof as the people who purchase FOOD tokens can track where their money is going through Polygon’s blockchain explorer.

Increasing crypto charities

Crypto charities have been a growing concept in the industry to fight against various social and natural issues. Several blockchain projects have come forward to contribute millions of dollars to humanitarian initiatives. 

As TheCoinRise reported, in January 2020, the Binance Charity project donated $1 million to the Australian Bushfire Cause.

Recently, amid the devastative situation of the Kingdom of Tonga, which faced a huge volcanic eruption of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga-Ha’apai volcano, Bitcoin helped the region to fight against the situation.
