Nike prepares to enter the metaverse, files trademark applications

Nike, a huge name in the designing and footwear industry, has set it eyes straight on newer goals and plans to enter the metaverse

Nike, a huge name in the designing and footwear industry, has set it eyes straight on newer goals and plans to enter the metaverse. Following the footsteps of Facebook and Microsoft, Nike has also taken its baby steps, aiming to establish dominance in the blockchain industry.

According to the report by CNBC, the apparel Nike has filed for seven trademark applications with authorities. This is an indication that the Oregon-based company will be entering the Metaverse to mint and sell virtual Nike apparels and sneakers.

The trademark application was filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on 27th October for the terms which include “Nike”, the brand name, the swoosh logo, and the renowned tagline of the brand, “Just Do It.”

However, this wasn’t it and the very next day, the firm filed for the “Air Jordan” and “Jumpman” logos. According to the authorities, seven trademark applications have been submitted for now, awaiting approval.

“Nike is protecting their trademarks for this new era,” said a trademark attorney, Josh Gerben. According to Gerben, such a step also protects Nike in case any other firm or individual starts rolling our digital products based on the company’s works.

Nike virtual rollouts eminent

Although the firm hasn’t released an official statement commenting on the matter, such a step is proof of the fact that the brand is conserving its values, and multiple digital rollouts might be lined up for release in the near future.

Furthermore, the firm is actively searching for a virtual material designer of footwear and other virtual design roles. A statement in this job posting talks about a digital revolution being planned by the firm.

“This position will combine their experience, problem solving abilities, and creativity to build the future of Nike Footwear materials. This role sits in the Digital Product Creation group, a team focusing on igniting the digital and virtual revolution at Nike,” said the job posting.
