Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Foundation has announced it will begin accepting cryptocurrency donations for its services. The foundation stated it will partner with The Giving Block to facilitate the donations.
Previously, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Foundation helps disadvantaged patients and families access good healthcare services. Based on the announcement, the organization will now be able to receive support from willing members of the public in the form of cryptocurrency donations.
Consequently, Donations would be accepted in more than 10 different cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), ChainLink (LINK), Amp (AMP), Litecoin (LTC), Storj (STORJ) Basic Attention Token (BAT), Dai (DAI), Dogecoin (DOGE), Gemini Dollar (GUSD) and more.
President of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Foundation, Michelle Boggs shared his excitement at the announcement. He said, “We are so excited to begin accepting cryptocurrencies as a donation method to benefit the children and families we serve every day.” Boggs expects that adding the alternate giving method should help many more people participate in the giving project securely and easily.
By considering this payment alternative, the non-profit organization is offering people who have cryptocurrency holdings an opportunity to give to the life-saving work of the organization in a tax-efficient way. According to the IRS, cryptocurrency donations are classified as property. This means it will not attract capital gains tax and all donations will be tax-deductible on donor’s tax returns.
Following this announcement, the foundation becomes one of the first healthcare-focused nonprofit organizations in Southern Florida to begin accepting cryptocurrency donations. It remains unclear if the organization will hold BTC or convert it to fiat immediately.
One however clear thing is that the move positions the foundation to maximize #BitCoinTuesday. This is the day set aside by the Bitcoin community for giving to others. This year, it will fall on Tuesday, November 30.
The 309-bed facility Foundation is a licensed pediatric facility with around 800 physicians and over 390 pediatric subspecialists. Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting “the delivery of and access to world-class healthcare at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.”
