Orica partners with NGO Bbanga Project to use NFTs for building a school in Uganda

Notable growth in the non-fungible token (NFT) arena is the growing variety of social impact projects that use digital art to fundraise for humanitarian causes. Orica, an ethical leveraging technology platform that supports artists and social impact organizations (SIOs) in creating and selling NFTs, is one such endeavor harnessing technology.

Launched on November 18 at Malta AI & Blockchain Summit (AIBC Malta), Orica announced its collaboration with an NGO, Bbanga Project, which will help it in dropping NFTs on its platform. The interesting point here is that all the funds generated by the NFT sale will be used to build a school in Uganda.

The location of the school is Ssese Island, an archipelago of 84 islands in Lake Victoria of Uganda. Bbanga Project has NGO status in Uganda and is a charitable non-profit organization in Austria. This implies that the Viennese charity and tax authorities will examine all the receipts.

Danial Nanaei, the founder of Orica said that around $70 billion worth of crypto moved through Malta, which is just 4,400 km away from Ssese Islands after it became the “Blockchain Island.” He finds it bizarre if the Ssese Islands families struggle with less than a dollar a day.

Notably, as TheCoinRise reported, El Salvador, after adopting BTC as its legal tender, has decided to build 20 schools from the Bitcoin profits.

He added that the company would leverage the launch of the NFT platform at the Malta Summit to start bringing some positive change.

Orica and Bbanga Project aims at 6,000 Euros

Bbanga Project has joined hands with the German digital artist Mellowmann to design and release the collection of NFTs inspired by Uganda. Mellowmann’s latest Ssese Islands NFT collection on Orica is called “A Fairer World,” with school children previewing it before it went on auction.

Nanaei informed that the NGO is aiming for a raise of at least $6,815 (around 6,000 Euros) to finish the construction of the school on the remote island of Bugala.

Sani Hayatbakhsh, Bbanga Project’s co-founder, stated:

“Sales from the NFTs imply that we can finish the building. 200 more children will gain access to primary education. Bbanga Project children were excited to be part of a technology launch and see a global artist create artwork especially for them.”
