Ripple Adviser Demonstrates Real Estate Use Case of Digital Assets
According to a July 7th tweet, Antony Welfare, Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) adviser at Ripple mentioned the growing demand for CBDCs amongst several governments and a surging interest in stablecoins. He highlighted that Ripple is actively working on real-life use cases and applications of both CBDCs and stablecoins with the current focus on the use of tokenization in the real estate industry.
At a recently concluded fintech conference which was held in Romania, the adviser demonstrated a use case that combines the digital Hong Kong dollar (e-HKD), tokenized real estate and finance lending protocols. The pilot program showed how users can tokenize real estate assets and also use them as collateral for loans while leveraging Ripple’s CBDC platform.
Tokenization Applies Across Several Industries
Broadly, tokenization encompasses the representation of real-life assets or properties as digital tokens in a blockchain network.
It is a concept that could apply to different industries seeing that it captures substantial interest and attention at once. Oftentimes, even artwork and intellectual property are transformed into digital tokens which are securely stored on a blockchain.
Larry Fink, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BlackRock once suggested the tokenization of asset classes like bonds and shares. He cited that this action may increase capital market efficiency and broaden investor accessibility.
