Rocket Pool halts launch after exposure discovered by rival

Rocket Pool is delaying the initial plans to launch following a rival identifying a vulnerability in its code. Both the Eth2 staking service alongside another staking provider Lido, have been found vulnerable to the bug thats causing the delay.

Eth2 staking provider Rocket Pool has announced it will be postponing its launch after discovering a possible exploit in the protocol’s code.
The staking service announced the news yesterday October 6, as the team continued working tirelessly to fix the bug. Taking to its official Twitter page, Rocket Pool tweeted that a new launch date will be communicated shortly. But in the meantime, patching the vulnerability only requires some little changes and the firm is presently doing its best.

In the tweet, Rocket Pool admitted to the exploit which is the reason why there’s being a postponement. However, the tweet was also thankful to Dmitri Tsumak for pointing in the direction. Tsumak is the founder of rival staking service StakeWise, and it was him who alerted the firm to the vulnerability.

After confirming the validity of the bug, Rocket Pool together with StakeWise then contacted another Eth2 staking project, Lido. This is because Lido’s protocol also stands vulnerable to the risks posed by the bug.

Lido has also confirmed the bug via its own Twitter page, suggesting a vote to lower staking limits for all node operators. According to Lido, this will help in minimizing the risk posed to the protocol. Lido also described the exploit as having a “low” potential impact adding that “the vulnerability can only be exploited by the currently whitelisted Lido node operators.”

Hopefully, a permanent fix can be done to this bug, and possibly soon enough.  More information will be shared as soon as it is  available.
