The ad from crypto exchange Crypto.com starring Hollywood star Matt Damon was mocked in the newest episode of the animated sitcom South Park, more than three months after its launch.
The creators of South Park took on citizens in the U. S. who refused to wear a mask in the first episode of its 25th season, titled “Pajama Day,” and once again linked crypto trading with scams. The show’s characters mocked Damon’s participation in a TV commercial titled “fortune favors the brave,” which featured the actor talking about Crypto.com in a digital world with historical figures.
“My dad said he listened to Matt Damon and lost all his money…” “Yes, everyone did! But they were brave in doing so!” the dialogue goes.
The criticism is likely linked to the loss of over $500 billion in combined market value by cryptocurrencies in January, with Bitcoin (BTC) plunging from over $42,000 to the $35,000s. The BTC price is $38,028 at the time of publication, down by more than 40% since Crypto.com posted the Damon ad.

South Park mocks crypto every now and then
Many people are familiar with South Park because of its criticism of the US government’s response to the 2008 financial crisis. It was popularised by the meme “aaaand… it’s gone,” which refers to one of the characters losing all of his funds after depositing them in a bank. Since then, the show has joked that crypto will become the only acceptable method of payment in the future and that NFT will kill the world.
Many in the mainstream media seemed to ignore the Crypto.com commercial when it was first launched in October 2021, until it ran during a National Football League game on January 2, 2022.
