U.S. state North Dakota’s City of Williston is working hard in the crypto sector and recently announced the installation of a crypto automated teller machine (ATM) under its actions on crypto exploration and adoption. The ATM will be installed in its international airport.

The administration of the city announced the government-hosted cryptocurrency kiosk installation at the Williston Basin International Airport, which will allow travelers to buy and sell cryptocurrencies. The ATM will support 40 digital currencies, including king Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, and the highly-talked Shiba Inu.

The City of Williston had partnered with the crypto service providing company Coin Cloud for the task to help the city in providing its digital currency machines (DCM). As per the firm, a DCM allows users to not only buy and sell BTC but also 40 other digital currencies with cash which clears that it is much more than just a BTC ATM. Coin Cloud asserts:

“Old school Bitcoin ATMs can’t do all that.”

The city of Williston aims to accelerate crypto adoption

The finance director of the City of Williston Hercules Cummings said that this effort is probably the first case of a government-hosted airport crypto ATM in the United States. He further anticipated the city’s crypto payment volume to spike by stating:

“By the government accepting cryptocurrencies for utility payments now integrated with hosting cryptocurrency ATMs, the government is a key player in providing exposure to the public and increasing the adoption of crypto.”

The official further noted that the next step of the City of Williston is to install a crypto ATM in the City Hall. The announcement added that the city would eventually cross the payment corridors over to permits, licenses, and other fees as a part of its roadmap.

Notably, in May 2021, the city partnered with crypto payment giant BitPay to begin accepting crypto like BTC as the mode of utility bills payment.

As TheCoinRise reported, Walmart has also installed 200 BTC ATMs across its store with future plans of installing up to 8000 ATMs across its chain of stores.
