UK Court Rules Against Craig Wright in Bitcoin Copyright Claim

A business and property court in England and Wales has dismissed the claims of Craig Wright over the infringement of an alleged literary work.

Craig Wright is an Australian computer scientist and entrepreneur who claims to be the figure behind “Satoshi Nakamoto,” the creator of Bitcoin. According to the details of the claim, Wright claims to be the owner of certain database rights including the Bitcoin Blockchain, the Bitcoin Whitepaper, and the Bitcoin File Format.

Wright brought the claim because of his opposition to the different variants of the digital currency, which has extended the Bitcoin Blockchain. More specifically, Wright claims the creation of Bitcoin Cash (BCH) deviated from the principles and protocols he created.

Therefore, Wright argues that the copyrights and database rights that he controls give him a way to stop BTC and the BCH Blockchain from continuing to operate without his permission. However, Judge James Mellor proclaimed that no relevant work has been identified which contains content that defines the structure of the Bitcoin File Format.

Meanwhile, this is not the first of Wright’s claims relating to Bitcoin property rights. He recently filed a claim against network developers to update the protocol code, so he can reevaluate his 111,000 Bitcoins, which were lost after he misplaced the encryption keys as a result of a computer hack.

Is Craig Wright the Creator of Bitcoin?

In his claim, Wright said he created the Bitcoin File Format in the process of writing the code for the Bitcoin System. He also alleges that the first block in the Bitcoin Blockchain is a special block known as the “Genesis Block”.

Craig Wright has tried a wide range of tricks in his attempt to be recognized as Satoshi Nakamoto. He has been accused of plagiarism several times; from moving Satoshi’s coin to signing a message with his private key.

While Craig Wright’s claim as the Bitcoin creator has received widespread debunking and rejection from the Bitcoin community, there is no hard proof to back it up.

The crypto and security communities have responded to Wright’s claims with suspicion and criticism, pointing out contradictions and errors in his claims. Despite this, Wright continues to be a contentious figure in the cryptocurrency and blockchain ecosystem.
