US National Figure Skating to Receive Donations in Digital Currencies

The United States National Figure Skating organization has announced its plans to receive donations in cryptocurrencies through an online platform controlled by Engiven. Coming off as the first National Governing Body in America to receive digital currency donations, the Figure Skating body seeks to grant more citizens the opportunities to support the work being done as well as future projects.

The proceeds will be managed by Engiven, a crypto startup that aids non-profit organizations run their proposed crypto donation campaigns. The donations that the US Figure Skating board will receive through Engiven will be promptly converted to the US Dollar so as to prevent it from losing its value, and then sent to the US Figure Skating.

“We continue to look for new and innovative ways to provide funding to the U.S. Figure Skating athletes, clubs, programs, and initiatives,” Executive Director Ramsey Baker said. “Allowing our supporters to give to U.S. Figure Skating using cryptocurrency makes sense in today’s quickly changing financial marketplace. The more avenues available for current and new donors to support the organization, the more we will be able to directly support our athletes and the many programs that service our members.” 

According to the announcement, the received donations will be deployed to support the families of skaters as they travel on to compete at the Beijing Olympic Games. The family members of US skating representatives or athletes will be allowed to gather in “U.S. Figure Skating’s Family Room” to watch their loved ones compete on U.S. Figure Skating’s media partner NBCU.

Encouraging the New Normal

The advent of the coronavirus pandemic changed a lot of things in the world, including the way support is shown for athletes around the world. While Football and Basketball as well as other sporting events that enjoin more crowds were grossly affected, competitions like figure skating also got dragged into the mix.

Platforms like Engiven are arguably helping to redefine the new normal and support donations to help organizations stay in touch with the members, donors, and fans around the world.

“Providing a technology platform for donors to give cryptocurrency so that these athletes can achieve their dreams is truly an honor,” said James Lawrence, CEO of Engiven. 

The donation is still ongoing, and donors will be able to choose more than one program being handled by the US Figure Skating as are being listed on the platform. The Figure Skating-Engiven crypto donation is not the first of its kind as Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum Founder also donated a number of memecoins to aid the Covid Relief program in India back in 2021.
