The basics, in plain English

What is a spot Bitcoin ETF?

A fund that holds bitcoin directly and trades on a stock exchange, so an investor gets exposure through a normal brokerage account instead of holding coins themselves. Because the fund must buy or sell bitcoin as shares are created or redeemed, its daily flows are a readable proxy for institutional demand.

Why do ETF inflows and outflows matter?

They are one of the few crypto datasets that is audited, published daily and hard to fake. A week of outflows tells you institutional allocators are reducing exposure regardless of what social sentiment says.

What is a 13F filing?

A quarterly disclosure US institutional managers over $100m must file, listing their holdings. It is how we know which pension funds, endowments and sovereign wealth managers hold crypto ETFs - after the fact, and with a lag.

What does hashrate tell you?

The total computing power securing the network. Rising hashrate means more capital committed to mining; a sharp fall usually means an energy, regulatory or price shock somewhere specific.
