Elon Musk’s SpaceX comes to Save Ukraine’s Internet connectivity

A major name in the crypto community, Elon Musk, who is the owner of Tesla Inc. and aerospace manufacturer SpaceX, has been silent on the Russia-Ukraine crisis. However, recently the tech billionaire has come forward to rescue Ukraine’s internet after the nation’s Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov directly reached out to him on Twitter.

On Friday, Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov urged Musk to take a break from space exploration and help his country stay able to access the internet since the country’s internet connectivity is threatened by ongoing Russian attacks.

Following the launch of a “special military operation” by Russia this Thursday, the crypto community has been highly active on Twitter, with major industry players expressing their concerns over the situation.

Since Thursday, several countries, including the United States, have come together to impose devastating sanctions on Russia. Following the blocking of Russia from the global banking SWIFT on Saturday, the president of the country put the country’s nuclear force on high alert.

As Russia advanced, there were severe disruptions in connectivity in numerous locations of Ukraine, according to internet governance watchdog NetBlocks.

“We ask you to provide Ukraine with Starlink stations,” Federov stated, referring to SpaceX’s satellite internet service. Musk responded a few hours after Federov’s tweet, stating that Starlink is now operational in Ukraine and that he was sending more terminals to support the service.

Plans are not revealed by SpaceX

Musk, on the other hand, did not say how SpaceX planned to send more terminals to Ukraine. Without these terminals, locals will be unable to connect to the Starlink network.

This isn’t the first time Musk’s company has offered assistance to a country in need. SpaceX reportedly delivered 50 Starlink terminals to Tonga earlier this year in an effort to restore internet service following a volcanic eruption.
