Solana Mobile confirmed that its SKR token will launch on Jan. 21 at 2 am UTC. The launch ties directly to the Solana Seeker smartphone, with users eligible to receive up to 20% of the total token supply through an airdrop.
SKR is designed to support Solana Mobile’s app system and network security model. Token holders will be able to delegate SKR to approved operators called Guardians. These Guardians will help secure the Solana network, verify devices, and manage access to the Solana Mobile app store.
The launch comes as Solana Mobile pushes to grow activity on the Seeker after ending support for its first device, the Saga, in October.
SKR delegation will be live at launch. Users who delegate tokens will earn rewards paid in SKR. Delegation also unlocks access to in-app features that are limited to token holders.
Solana Mobile general manager Emmett Hollyer said SKR is meant to give users direct control over who can participate in the platform, what rules apply, and how money moves inside the system. The airdrop is the first distribution step.
The Seeker is Solana Mobile’s second phone. It was released in August and focuses on direct access to decentralized apps, payments, and token ownership without app store limits.
Since launch, the Seeker has processed 9 million transactions. Trading volume across its apps has reached $2.6 billion. Activity came from more than 100,000 users interacting with 265 decentralized apps. These figures are being used by Solana Mobile to show stronger demand compared to the Saga.
SKR has a fixed total supply of 10 billion tokens. At launch, 57% of the supply will be unlocked or made available.
A total of 30% of SKR is reserved for airdrops. At launch, two thirds of that amount will go to Solana Seeker users and developers. The remaining portion is scheduled for later releases.
An additional 2.7 billion SKR, equal to 27% of supply, will unlock during the token generation event. Of that amount, 1 billion tokens are assigned to the community treasury, 1 billion to liquidity, and 700 million to growth and partnerships.
The Solana Mobile team holds 15% of the supply. Solana Labs holds 10%.
Guardians will go live with the token launch. Early participants include Anza, DoubleZero, Helius, and Jito. These firms operate Solana infrastructure and will help guide platform decisions tied to SKR delegation.
Solana Mobile says the structure is built to challenge the mobile app control held by Apple and Google. The company argues that current app stores restrict payment options and developer access.
