Cloudflare has announced a new partnership with Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. The goal of this partnership is to make AI-powered commerce safer. This new field, called agentic commerce, allows AI systems to buy and pay for things on behalf of people.
This move shows Cloudflare’s growing role in shaping how artificial intelligence (AI) and financial technology connect in the future.
The San Francisco–based cloud company revealed it worked with Visa to create the Trusted Agent Protocol. This system allows merchants to confirm that an AI shopping bot is real and approved before completing any transaction. The innovation protocol uses Cloudflare’s Web Bot Authentication standard to ensure that only verified AI agents can make payments.
Mastercard and American Express are also adding similar tools to their AI payment systems to improve safety and trust in this new type of digital transaction. Similarly, the company has also joined forces with Coinbase to launch the x402 Foundation, which aims to create shared standards for how AI systems handle payments.
Cloudflare’s latest efforts fit into a larger shift happening in the blockchain world, especially on Ethereum. Developers are now building autonomous AI agents that can think, act, and make payments on their own.
This new protocol is part of Cloudflare’s wider plan to support secure machine-to-machine payments. At the same time, Cloudflare is planning to introduce its own stablecoin, called the NET Dollar, which is poised to make digital transactions faster and easier.
Beyond its collaboration with the popular credit card companies, Cloudflare is also working with global payment and technology firms. This includes Adyen, Checkout.com, Circle, Fiserv, Microsoft, Nuvei, Shopify, Webflow, and Worldpay. This group is working together to create clear and reliable rules for how AI-driven payments should work.
The goal is to create a safe and open space where businesses and consumers can both enjoy faster and smarter financial systems.
Agentic commerce is a new kind of trade where AI systems replace humans. These AI agents can find products, compare prices, make deals, and buy items automatically. They can also handle things like booking trips, renewing subscriptions, or managing online shopping without human help.
As this technology grows, it depends more on blockchain, stablecoins, and digital assets to make payments faster and safer. Experts believe this type of automated trade will soon become common as AI keeps improving. Cloudflare is working to make this possible by adding trust and security for these AI systems.
At the same time, the use of AI is spreading beyond commerce. Binance ex-CEO Changpeng Zhao has urged governments around the world to explore ways to use artificial intelligence in law more effectively.
