FIFA, the world’s biggest soccer organization, is considering creating its own cryptocurrency. President Gianni Infantino spoke about this idea at the White House Crypto Summit on March 7. He expressed FIFA’s interest in creating a digital token that could connect with billions of soccer fans worldwide.

This shows that FIFA is interested in using blockchain technology to connect better with fans. However, Infantino did not share many details or say when the project would start. His short speech suggested that FIFA wants to enter the digital world in a big way.

The FIFA Big Cryptocurrency Move

FIFA plans to launch a digital token in the U.S. to connect with billions of soccer fans. President Trump welcomed the idea, saying the FIFA coin could become valuable. His comment highlighted how digital assets could impact sports and other industries.

The token could allow fans to buy tickets, merchandise, and exclusive content, making transactions easier before the 2026 World Cup in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. However, FIFA has not yet shared the full details of the project.

Infantino’s statement suggests FIFA is exploring cryptocurrency as part of soccer’s future, which could change how fans engage with the sport. Meanwhile, the White House Crypto Summit introduced major regulatory changes under President Trump.

One key plan discussed was the U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. The government plans to hold Bitcoin (BTC) and other crypto assets without using taxpayer money.

UnRelated FIFA Coin Saw Unexpected Surge

Infantino’s statement had an immediate effect on the crypto market. Soon after his speech, a digital asset named “FIFA” skyrocketed by 357,000%. It reached a market value of about $8.2 million in just one day.

However, this coin is not connected to the FIFA soccer organization. The price increased because investors were confused and thought the coin was attached to the soccer organization.

FIFA’s Growing Interest in Crypto and Blockchain Initiatives

Over the years, FIFA has partnered with crypto initiatives and leveraged blockchain platforms to connect with fans and improve its operations.

In 2022, the organization created its first Non-fungible Tokens (NFTs) collections, dubbed FIFA + Collect, utilizing the Algorand blockchain technology, its official blockchain platform for the organization.

In late November, FIFA announced a partnership with Mythical Games to develop “FIFA Rivals,” a free mobile soccer game that uses blockchain technology. The game will launch later in 2025 and let players create and manage teams while owning unique digital items.
