Pi Network Pauses Wallet Payment After Major Scam

The Pi Network community has raised strong concerns about a major scam that caused many users to lose millions of Pi tokens without knowing.

In response, the Pi Network core team quickly paused an important wallet payment feature. This step is meant to prevent more losses while the team investigates the issue and reviews security.

Scammers Drained Over 4.4M Pi Tokens Through Social Engineering

Community reports revealed that scammers stole more than 4.4 million Pi tokens using social engineering scheme on users. There was no hacking of Pi Network’s system. Instead, the attackers took advantage of how users behaved and trusted them.

Using the transparent nature of blockchain technology, the scammers identified wallets holding large Pi balances. Attackers then sent fake payment requests, asking users to approve what appeared to be normal or official transactions. Once a user approved the request, the transfer happened instantly.

Blockchain data showed that many of the stolen tokens were sent to a single wallet address. This wallet is said to have received between 700,000 and 800,000 Pi tokens many times since July 2025.

Community trackers noticed that Pi kept coming into the wallet every month, with a big increase in December. Experts believe this shows the scam was planned and targeted, not accidental or random.

The December spike has raised fears that the operation accelerated as more users became eligible to transfer Pi tokens.

Pi Network Halts Wallet Requests to Protect Users

Community leaders advised users to reject all unsolicited payment requests, even from familiar or official-looking accounts. Several blockchain trackers also flagged suspicious wallet activity long before the payment freeze.

A Pi Network moderator warned users about a wallet address linked to scams where people were tricked with fake account unlocks. He said the stolen Pi was usually broken into many wallets to make it harder to track.

To stop more losses, the Pi Network team temporarily turned off the wallet payment request feature. This pause gives the team time to investigate the issue and protect users while working on stronger security measures.

Pi Network Scam Happened Despite New Security Upgrades

The scam occurred despite ongoing security improvements by the Pi Network team. In March, the platform introduced two-factor authentication (2FA) for users migrating balances to the Mainnet. This step added an extra layer of protection during sensitive transactions.

The team has also improved migration and verification processes ahead of upcoming token unlocks, helping ensure only verified users gain access.

Pi Network recently integrated artificial intelligence (AI) into its KYC process, cutting manual verification work by about 50%. This change has allowed more users to qualify for the Mainnet faster and with greater accuracy.

In addition, the Pi Node version 0.5.4 update improved desktop performance and fixed concerns related to node reward calculations, further strengthening the ecosystem.
