Rep Mike Collin Now Accept Crypto Donations for Campaign

On March 5, a Georgia congressman, Mike Collins, announced to the public that his congressional campaign is now accepting crypto donations. This underscores that cryptocurrencies may have finally found a place in American politics.

BTC, ETH, and SOL as Crypto Donations

According to his statement, his team will now accept Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Dogecoin (DOGE), Litecoin (LTC), Solana (SOL), Tether’s USD-pegged stablecoin USDT, and many others. Collins acknowledged America’s reluctance to adopt blockchain technology, cryptocurrency, and even Artificial Intelligence (AI).

In his opinion, this has held the country back in some form. However, he hopes that by making this move, he will lift the stigma placed on the crypto market in the region.

Rep. Collins Owns a Crypto Portfolio Beyond Donation

This is not Collins’ first interaction with digital currencies. Last year, he announced his purchase of $65,000 worth of Ethereum and the acquisition of other altcoins. Some of his other purchases are $15,000 worth of Velodrome (VELO), up to $15,000 in The Graph (GRT), and up to $115,000 in Aerodrome Finance (AERO).

Collins also recently purchased Ski Mask Dog (SKI), and all of these disclosures mark a pivot in politicians’ and lawmakers’ perceptions of crypto assets. With the improved, favorable regulatory policies for cryptocurrencies in the US, most of these assets will likely record more adoption, especially from institutional clients.

The growing appetite for crypto among U.S. politicians took a new twist over the past few years. Even current Vice President JD Vance owned Bitcoin prior to his inauguration.

US Presidential Candidates Accepted Crypto Donations

Current United States President Donald Trump was one of those who received cryptocurrency donations during his campaign. Before the election in November, he had generated millions of dollars from crypto contributions. Most donations were from Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, and stablecoins like Tether and USDC.

It is worth acknowledging that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was the first US presidential candidate to accept Bitcoin for campaign donations in May 2023. Not long after, Vivek Ramaswamy followed suit. Quite a number of these entities recognize Bitcoin as a hedge against other assets.

Kennedy once described the firstborn digital currency as an asset that promotes freedom, individual liberty, and democracy.
