Wiz Khalifa X Account Hacked in Scam, Promotes Fraudulent $WIZ Memecoin

The X account of the popular rapper Wiz Khalifa fell into the hands of a hacker on November 3. The compromised account, boasting 35.7 million followers, promoted a new cryptocurrency token named “$WIZ” in a classic pump-and-dump scheme that played on the artist’s brand recognition. Claiming the involvement of Khalifa, hacker posted that he had been “working with [his] team to drop $WIZ for all the crypto fam.”

The token, launched on Solana-based platform pump.fun, soared in value briefly, reaching a market cap of $3.4 million within just 15 minutes. Yet, the success was short-lived. As early investors cashed out, the value plunged rapidly, collapsing to under $28,000 shortly after. At present, $WIZ trades around $8,400, according to data from DEX Screener.

Data from Solscan further reveals that two key wallets, investing a combined $19,100 at launch, offloaded 155 million WIZ tokens shortly after for a profit of $160,000 — a telling indicator of the scam’s design.

Suspected Ties to Recent Hacks

Blockchain analyst ZachXBT, known for tracking crypto scams, suspects the same hacker responsible for Wiz Khalifa’s account may have orchestrated a similar attack on Truth Terminal developer Andy Ayrey’s X account just a week prior, on October 29.

“Do not buy the Wiz Khalifa Pump Fun [token],” Zach warned in his Telegram group, suggesting a link between the two incidents. Like the Wiz Khalifa incident, Ayrey’s account was hijacked to promote fraudulent tokens, reportedly netting the hacker over $1.5 million in unauthorized gains.

This recent breach in Khalifa’s account marks one in a rising series of high-profile account takeovers on X. In July, actress Sydney Sweeney’s account was similarly hacked to endorse the Solana-based token “SWEENEY.” The token drew massive interest, amassing $10 million in trading volume within hours of launch before crashing.

Continued Risks?

While the posts promoting $WIZ have since been deleted, it remains unclear if Khalifa has regained full control of his account or if an official investigation is underway. The hack highlights ongoing concerns in the digital space about the vulnerability of celebrity social media profiles and the ease with which scammers exploit followers’ trust.
