Yuga Labs, the firm behind prominent non-fungible tokens (NFTs) like Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), has welcomed a new chief executive officer, Greg Solano, who is known for being one of the creators behind the BAYC collection.
As reported earlier by TheCoinRise, the NFT firm is currently focused on generating additional income, recently laid off a significant portion of its workforce, and aims to shift its focus towards community and brand engagement, doubling down on its metaverse extension, Otherside, and strengthening internal development efforts.
Solano will replace Daniel Alegre as the chief executive of the firm. Alegre left his position as President and COO of Activision Blizzard, the firm behind the popular video game series Call of Duty.
Alegre stated there is “a massive opportunity to define the metaverse in a way that empowers creators and provides users with true ownership of their identity and digital assets” when he joined Yuga Labs in December 2022.
Solano confirmed that he will be joining Yuga Labs as chief executive in a post on social media platform X (previously known as Twitter). “I am stepping back in as CEO of Yuga Labs,” Solano confirmed while adding that he’s “reinvigorated to be taking the reins for our next chapter.”
“We want to unshackle the BAYC team at Yuga as much as possible to execute against its vision. More focus, more agility. So it can do the above, and create the space for the magic and crazy shit we used to get up to more often,” said Solano.
Under Solano, the NFT firm will focus more on creativity and once again focus on building more partnerships. He emphasized the intrinsic value of BAYC, attributing its utility to the collective participation of all club members.
Solano also underscored the significance of previous accomplishments, such as ApeFest and Made by Apes, which played a pivotal role in extending the influence and recognition of the BAYC brand.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do. The only way it gets built properly is if you all come in and experience it more often,” he said.
Recently, Yuga Labs released its first NFT collection designed on the Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain network. The NFT studio joined the Ordinals Inscriptions with its generative art project dubbed TwelveFold.
The collection is a base 12 art system hosted on a 12×12 grid, done using 3D modeling, algorithmic construction, and high-end rendering techniques, and minted on Satoshi using the Ordinal Theory Protocol.
