Ross Calvin, a Bitcoin mining entrepreneur and head of Parhelion Mining, is preparing to present a bold idea to U.S. President Donald Trump. The idea involves building a 450-foot-tall statue of Prometheus on Alcatraz Island.
The proposed project, estimated to cost $450 million, would transform the famous island into a symbol of creativity, courage, and progress.
According to Ross Calvin, the planned Prometheus statue would stand 450 feet tall, made from a nickel-bronze alloy. For comparison, the Statue of Liberty measures 305 feet from base to torch. If completed, Prometheus would tower over it and become one of the tallest statues in the world.
The statue would be built on Alcatraz Island, once home to the United States’ most notorious prison, which closed in 1963. Today, the island is a national park. To move forward with construction, it would need to be reclassified as a national monument. This is a decision that would require approval from President Trump, who holds over $1 billion in crypto assets.
The project is being led by Calvin’s nonprofit group, American Colossus. The organization describes the monument as “a lightning rod for the noble destiny of the West.” It is also called “America’s monument to beauty, heroism, ingenuity, and manifest destiny.”
Calvin and his team plan to build a museum on the site that will focus on art, technology, and innovation. They believe the statue could become both a learning center and a cultural symbol of human creativity and courage. A full proposal with designs and drawings is expected by the end of January 2026.
The Prometheus statue project has strong links to the crypto world through its founder, Ross Calvin, a well-known Bitcoin entrepreneur. Calvin is the CEO of Parhelion Mining, a Denver-based Bitcoin mining company.
The firm operates 25 megawatts of mining capacity in Kurdish Iraq and is developing additional operations in Syria, Egypt, Libya, and Algeria. He started mining Bitcoin in 2013, making him one of the early players in the crypto industry.
In mid-2025, Calvin launched a Prometheus memecoin through the Believe platform to raise community interest around the statue project. The coin did not gain much traction, reaching only about $12,000 in total market value. Calvin later explained that the coin was just a small test and not part of the main funding plan for the monument.
Calvin’s initiative joins a growing trend of crypto-inspired monuments worldwide. In 2021, Hungary’s crypto community unveiled a bronze statue of Satoshi Nakamoto in Budapest. This was designed to symbolize decentralization and digital empowerment.
Another tribute to Bitcoin’s mysterious creator was installed in Lugano, Switzerland, as part of the city’s pro-Bitcoin campaign. The status was reported stolen in August 2025, shocking the local community and the global crypto world.
