Craig Wright once again made headlines in a bold move that sent shockwaves through the crypto community. He sued the Bitcoin Core developers this time, demanding £911 billion in damages. In the lawsuit, the Australian scientist also claimed that Bitcoin SV (BSV) is the true Bitcoin.
Wright’s company, Tullip Trading, dragged Bitcoin Core developers to court in 2022. In the lawsuit, the self-proclaimed Bitcoin creator said Bitcoin developers should help recover lost assets. He also urged them to change the protocol to regain his BTC. Although this lawsuit was ruled out due to lack of merit then, it was later given a trial in 2023
Craig Wright’s lawsuit directly challenges the Bitcoin narrative established by Core developers. In his filing, he argues that they have misrepresented BTC as the original Bitcoin by making changes like SegWit and Taproot. According to Wright, these modifications stray from Satoshi Nakamoto’s true vision. He maintains that these changes have harmed Bitcoin SV’s reputation and market position.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin SV’s price has recently surged. According to CoinMarketCap data, the crypto asset is trading at $52.00, up 3.49% in the last 24 hours.
This lawsuit follows a previous court ruling. Earlier this year, UK Justice Mellor stated that Wright is not the author of the Bitcoin White Paper. His Bitcoin copyright claims were denied. The ruling also discredited his claims of being Satoshi Nakamoto.
These past court rulings now cast a shadow over Wright’s current lawsuit. BitMEX Research pointed out that Wright cannot reassert his claim to be Satoshi due to an earlier injunction.
Wright’s recent lawsuit follows another legal claim filed on October 12, 2024. This earlier claim says there was a partnership between Bitcoin Core and Square Up Europe Ltd., but the details of this partnership need to be clarified.
The legal actions from Craig Wright have faced strong criticism from many in the crypto community. Well-known figure Hodlonaut showed disbelief over Wright’s latest lawsuit and jokingly suggested that Wright might be using ChatGPT to write his claims. This doubt shows a common feeling that often sees Wright’s claims as unfounded.
