Ron DeSantis Confirms Withdrawal from the US Presidential Race

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has officially ended his presidential campaign in the United States with a pledge to support former president and billionaire Donald Trump. 

The Republican candidate for the 2024 presidency stated that he couldn’t continue with a campaign lacking a clear path to victory.

DeSantis Withdraws

DeSantis has been quite vocal against central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), stating that he couldn’t go on with a campaign that didn’t give him any clear direction to victory.

“I can’t ask our supporters to volunteer their time and donate their resources. Accordingly, I am today suspending my campaign,” he said.

On January 21, he shared the news of his withdrawal in a 4-minute announcement on X (formerly Twitter). DeSantis confirmed his support for former United States President Donald Trump. 

“I will not stop now. It’s clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance.”

A Short Journey for DeSantis

DeSantis first launched his presidential bid in July 2023. In one of his first public appearances as a candidate, the Florida governor pledged to outlaw any potential plans for a digital dollar if elected. 

“If I am the president, on day one, we will nix central bank digital currency. Done. Dead. Not happening in this country,” he said at the event in Iowa. 

After the campaign, he came in second on January 15, trailing Donald Trump by 21% points, in the Iowa primary for the Republican Party nomination.

Trump is also a Vocal Critic of CBDCs

As recently covered, Trump has also voiced his concerns against CBDCs and noted that he would “never allow” the creation of a digital dollar in the United States, adding:

“This [CBDC] would be a dangerous threat to freedom, and I will stop it from coming to America,” Donald Trump said.

The billionaire businessman’s promise received huge applause from the New Hampshire crowd a few days ago.
