Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has announced the launch of his fourth non-fungible token (NFT) collection in partnership with Binance. The new collection, set to debut on May 29 on the Binance NFT Marketplace, celebrates the footballer’s illustrious career and features highlights from his storied journey.

In a blog post from Binance, Ronaldo commented, “My football journey has seen me travel around the world, and I’ve been honored to play for some of the most prestigious clubs out there. Now it’s your turn to join me on that journey too.”

Perks Offered with NFTs by Ronaldo

While the exact number of NFTs in the new collection by Ronaldo remains undisclosed until the official release, the post hinted that the pricing structure will be uniform for “Normal NFTs.” However, the pricing for “the final Super Rare NFT” will differ, reflecting its unique value within the collection.

Previous NFT events featuring Ronaldo have offered perks beyond the digital realm. These included premium experiences where holders were invited to play football with the legend himself, part of Binance’s promotional efforts. Such engagements highlight the blending of physical and digital experiences in the evolving NFT space.

Class-Action Lawsuit Against Ronaldo

Despite the excitement surrounding this new launch, it comes amid a backdrop of legal challenges. As reported earlier in November 2023, Ronaldo was named in a class-action lawsuit filed in a United States district court in Florida. The plaintiffs accused Ronaldo of promoting, assisting in, and actively participating in the sale of unregistered securities in coordination with Binance. They argued that he should have been aware of Binance’s alleged activities.

The lawsuit against Ronaldo is part of broader legal issues faced by Binance. Founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao was found guilty in the U.S. of enabling fraud and was sentenced in April 2024 to serve four months in detention for his involvement in an alleged money laundering scheme. These legal entanglements have cast a shadow over Binance’s operations and its collaborations with high-profile figures like Ronaldo.

Athletes and Celebrities in the NFT Space

The football star’s foray into the NFT world underscores a growing trend of athletes and celebrities leveraging blockchain technology to engage with fans in novel ways. Ronaldo’s collections have garnered significant attention, reflecting his global influence and the increasing interest in NFTs as a means of digital ownership and fan interaction.

Ronaldo’s previous NFT collections with Binance have been well-received, drawing fans and collectors eager to own a piece of digital memorabilia associated with one of football’s greatest players. This latest collection is expected to follow suit, offering unique digital assets that celebrate key moments from Ronaldo’s career.
