Decentraland partners NBA champion Stephen Curry, hints a new product launch

The virtual reality-based metaverse mania has begun to dominate mainstream headlines, especially since Facebook’s recent rebranding to meta. Recently, Decentraland (MANA), the crypto market’s most popular metaverse project, has announced a major partnership with NBA champion Stephen Curry and his key sponsor, Under Armour.

Curry, who recently set the NBA record for highest three-pointers made, is an enthusiastic investor who is also intrigued by the NFT craze. Stephen Curry has updated his Twitter profile picture to reflect his most recent NFT purchase. NBA superstar Curry purchased Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT artwork for 55 ETH, which was around $180,000 at the time.

Decentraland’s official Twitter account highlighted the new collaboration and hinted at a potential new product launch on December 21st. This would be Stephen Curry’s second significant cryptocurrency deal since he also has a $25 billion stake in popular crypto exchange FTX.

Decentraland aims recovery

Decentraland is one of the most popular Metaverse initiatives, with its play2earn NFT game offering virtual land. The crypto metaverse initiatives made headlines earlier this month when they sold their virtual land for a record $2.4 million. The sum paid for the virtual land is more than some of New York’s most opulent real estate.

MANA and SAND, two metaverse tokens, saw their largest gains in November, rising by 5X and 7X, respectively, to new highs, defying November’s bearish trend to trade higher. The metaverse coins are consolidating with the rest of the market downtrend. 

As an outcome of the collaboration, the upcoming new project is speculated to help Decentraland surge its value, which is currently sitting near its month-low, hovering around $3.1.

Many major crypto investors, including Ark Invest founder Cathie Wood, believe that the metaverse has the potential to become a multi-trillion market in the coming days.
