Is Spotify testing NFT galleries on artists’ profiles for select U.S. users?

As per several reports surfacing recently, the music streaming giant Spotify has started testing the option of NFT galleries on musicians’ profiles. The move, if implemented successfully, would improve the user experience and artists’ profiles.

Spotify is reportedly has begun running the pilot for select platform’s Android app users from the United States. The NFT previews are visible on the artist profiles for these users. There are now just two such artists: DJ and producer Steve Aoki and indie rock band The Wombats, both of whom are recognized for using NFTs.

Spotify only supports static images as of now

There is no direct purchase option, but the user can tap to be sent to the OpenSea page, where they can purchase the digital art after reading about the NFT and seeing the magnified preview. According to reports, Spotify does not support videos or GIF formats, instead displaying a static image with no sound.

This isn’t the first time the company has expressed an interest in the digital realm. Spotify has previously tweeted about its new effort to build a “sound paradise” for its subscribers, complete with a range of interactive activities, according to a past report by TheCoinRise.

The tests are being undertaken “in an effort to improve artist and fan experiences,” according to a company spokesman, and while some will pave the way for a bigger experience, others will serve just as essential learning. Some Spotify users have expressed their dissatisfaction with the streaming service’s NFT-related survey.

Musicians are looking into the NFT sector, which might be a lucrative source of income, especially if international touring is disrupted by COVID-19. Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park was the first major-label artist to release a single as an NFT in 2021, while Kings of Leon was the first band to release an entire album as non-fungibles. Legendary, best-selling musician Jay Chou also jumped into the NFT space in January by auctioning one of his classic songs.
