In a bid to promote ocean and deep sea conservation, the decentralized Ethereum (ETH) scaling platform Polygon has announced its partnership with the Ocean Conservation Exploration and Education Foundation (OCEEF). The partnership is also focused on introducing deep-sea exploration to Web3.0.
Polygon intends to introduce the ocean literacy project with an approach of fun, creativity, and entertainment.
The protocol believes that this will make the public more aware and responsive to the incumbent problems. Together with OCEEF, Polygon is aimed at making ocean conservation and preservation a topic for many generations.
“The shared goal of this effort is to ensure that the ocean and its preservation remain the topics of discussion for generations to come,” Polygon outlined.
Through the immersive and interactive experiences in the Metaverse, the RV Odyssey, OCEEF’s state-of-the-art research vessel will be explored by the general public. They will be familiarized with the vessel’s facilities and its real-time data.
According to OCEEF, the RV Odyssey is a “183 ft Ice-Class Oceanographic Vessel, that can accommodate up to 55 people, including 22 crew and 7 for submersible and helo operations. It is equipped with a helipad and a 21-ton A-Frame used to launch its two 3-person submersibles.”
In addition, it is equipped with a Sonar Multibeam system, wet labs, dry labs, an onboard medical facility, a hyperbaric chamber, a sophisticated Mission-Control center, and a broadcast-quality studio.
Being able to facilitate a global endeavor such as the one that OCEEF is undertaking is very humbling,” Polygon Co-founder Sandeep Nailwal commented. “I know that our technology is up to the task of bringing these types of immersive, educational, and change-making experiences to people all over the globe.”
Ultimately, Polygon will support this project through the purchase of Non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Also, its distributed governance platform will boost OCEEF public engagements. On the other hand, OCEEF will allow participants to join their teams for missions and dives. Participants will become major contributors to the future itinerary and research of the vessel.
OCEEF Founder Alex Moukas said, “Using our Polygon partnership and its carbon-neutral tech as a launchpad, we will be using technology to democratize access to the vessel through multiple Web3 platforms as well as provide participants with the ability to help decide the vessel’s future itinerary and research.”
