Sotheby’s Onboards Brian Beccafico as NFT Specialist

After putting out an advert on the corporate social media platform LinkedIn, luxury, and art auction house Sotheby’s has finally employed a Non-fungible token (NFT) specialist. The British-founded art and luxury house confirmed the news after Brian Beccafico, the newly employed specialist announced it via a meme. 

In the virtual space, Brian Beccafico who is an NFT art collector is recognized as Arthemort.

He would be joining Sotheby’s digital art team as a specialist in NFTs. Beccafico comes from a lineage of art collectors. In the past, he had purchased NFTs from renowned digital artists like American digital artist Beeple, Las Vegas-born Victor also known as Fewacious, XCOPY, and a host of others.

Sotheby’s Interest in NFTs Peaks

Globally, Sotheby’s is one of the oldest and largest auction houses, it made its debut entrance into the world of non-fungible tokens in 2021. The first NFT art piece put up for auction by the luxury house was designed by an anonymous artist referred to as Pak. 

Specifically, that first art piece was sold at about $17 million in the peak of April 2021. With a team of experts all across London, New York, Paris, and Hong Kong, the art house is able to put out NFTs on several online markets. The successful art and luxury house utilizes different formats to make its sales like auction, buy-now, and generative drops,

Ever since then, Sotheby’s interest in NFTs has heightened. Significantly, its involvement with NFT projects has increased.

Notably, is its collaboration deal which involved Liverpool in March of this year. Before the end of Q1, the art collection house partnered with English Premier League club Liverpool FC to make its first move into the NFT world.

The professional football club located in Liverpool England launched its collection of NFTs tagged LFC Heroes Club NFTs. it was a display of the key 24 members of its club. Sotheby’s was fully involved in the design and development of the NFTs.

Prior to this time, Sotheby’s floated its own NFT platform dubbed Sotheby’s Metaverse in October. The auction of its NFTs takes place at an event which hold three times a year.
