Stephane Gosselin Resigns from Flashbots over Disagreement with the Team

Stephane Gosselin, Co-founder of Flashbots has made an announcement to step down from the company. He made the decision last month after a series of disagreements with the team as regards censorship relating to Tornado cash.

While many details weren’t given by Gosselin about his fallout from his team, he is hopeful that validators will avoid connecting to censorship relays in the short term.

Gosselin also said in a statement that he is proud of the achievements made from the projects he has performed thus far for Flashbots. According to him, “Maintaining resistance to censorship is critical to a diverse and competitive MEV ecosystem”.

Flashbots is a security and network company responsible for ensuring a fair Maximal Extractable Value (MEV) ecosystem beginning with  Ethereum.

The MEV-boost relay is a reliable intermediary between block manufacturers and block builders.

With this, all Ethereum-proof validators can offer their block space not only to Flashbots but also to other builders. This opens the market to more builders and creates competition between them, leading to more revenue and options for validators and a longer duration of censorship for Ethereum.

A Decentralized Block System for Flashbots

Flashbots have become widespread in the production of block processes as it offers blocks with high incentives. However, it has made intentions known to begin censoring transactions relating to Tornado cash. This move has brought concerns to the growing Ethereum community.

Robert Miller, product lead at Flashbots made a statement that Flashbots is hoping to create a decentralized block-building network in the future. According to him, the block-building network will be of importance for the mass production of Ethereum and other technologies that requires the same process.

“In the short term, to reduce dependence on Flashbots and upload competition, Flashbots will publicly acquire more knowledge and infrastructure in the coming weeks, submit builder blocks to other relays to assist bootstrapping adoption, and provide support for the development of a relay race that helps the community impartially evaluate and monitor the performance of relays”, says Miller.
