Swiss Stock exchange SIX lists two new carbon-neutral crypto ETPs

The SIX Swiss Exchange launched two new carbon-neutral crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs), which brings the total number of crypto ETPs to 155.

Helveteq, the third crypto ETP issuer to join SIX in 2022, is offering two new crypto ETPs, Bitcoin (Bitcoin Zero / BTCO2) and Ethereum (Ether Zero / ETH2O), according to the SIX Swiss Exchange.

Swiss stock exchange finds carbon-neutral crypto ETPs critical

An ETP is a financial derivative that depends on assets like commodities, currencies, share prices, and interest rates. The BTCO2 and ETH2O ETPs aim to provide investors with exposure to the world’s two biggest cryptocurrencies while also helping to offset their carbon footprints. They’re part of Helveteq’s “crypto goes carbon neutral” campaign, which is being run in collaboration with the University of Zurich’s Swiss fintech innovation lab.

While commenting on the recent listing, Christian Katz, CEO of Helveteq, stated that providing carbon-neutral crypto ETPs is critical. He went on to add:

“Awareness of the link between the environment and the blockchain economy is rising fast and we all must work together to find sustainable solutions. That’s why Helveteq sponsors and cooperates with the University of Zurich for research in this field, based on which we compensate for the carbon footprint of our Zero ETP family.”

On the other hand, the head of SIX Swiss Exchange, Christian Reuss, also shared his excitement by saying that he is “ delighted to see how many start-ups choose the Swiss jurisdiction because of its legal certainty, world-class infrastructure, and our stable trading system.”

There has been a flood of ETPs since the Swiss SIX Exchange Launched its first Crypto ETP in 2018. As we reported in November 2019, the Swiss stock exchange launched income-generating Tezos ETP. The platform offers its users access to 240 crypto-based products with trading volume surging by 673% in 2021.
