The NFT community from the New York-based news magazine TIME, TIMEPieces, has partnered with Animoca Brands’ metaverse The Sandbox to develop ‘TIME Square.’
According to a recent announcement shared by The Sandbox, it will help TIME in the development of its first-ever destination in the metaverse, TIME Square.
TIME has acquired a virtual land in The Sandbox where the destination will be built as a destination for convening, art, and commerce. The president of the magazine Keith A. Grossman announced the cooperation during The Sandbox event at NFT.NYC. He also called architecture to design the new project by “reimagining the world-renowned cultural center for the metaverse.”
TIME Square is inspired by the “virtual spirit and energy” of the iconic neighborhood in New York City, the announcement said.
The co-founder of The Sandbox, Sebastien Borget, said that the metaverse is often viewed as a vibrant space with a healthy culture, entertainment, and brands, where anyone can discover, learn, work, play, dance, meet new people, and find amazing new opportunities. He stated:
“By partnering with TIME, we’re adding TIMEPieces as the beating heart and soul of this virtual Manhattan, where a design call for virtual architects will be held in TIME Square, a place in our creative metaverse for brands and creators.”
Notably, as TheCoinRise reported in March, The Sandbox announced a partnership with the NFT community World of Women for the launch of trending WoW Foundation.
In September last year, TIME introduced TIMEPieces, an NFT community project featuring over 40 influential artists’ original artwork. It currently has four NFT collections and is turning to its vibrant community and metaverse enthusiasts around the world to introduce a visionary architect to reimagine TIME Square as a virtual creation.
The new virtual destination will serve as an inclusive platform for TIMEPieces NFT holders to experience a unique world to conduct activities like attending events and meetings hosted by TIME studios. Grossman stated:
“Our goal is to create a destination that will be the heart of the metaverse. Since launching TIMEPieces in September 2021, we have focused on developing a community in Web3 that benefited from the incredible 100- year legacy and access TIME has established.”
