Yuga Labs Introduces Gamified BAYC Minting Project

Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection developer Yuga Labs which recently appointed Daniel Alegre as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has introduced a twist to the minting of Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) which will kick off on January 17th. 

This creator plans to turn the process of minting NFTs into an online game where players would have to steer through a sewer to earn rewards in the form of NFTs. The launch is in stages which would begin with the free minting of previous BAYC/Mutant Ape Yacht Club tokens called Sewer Passes.

“Short version: monkey butthole, Sewer Pass January 17, skill-based mint begins January 18, new power sources,” a BAYC Twitter post stated “On January 18, we kick off Dookey Dash, a skill-based minting experience through the BAYC sewer. To get in, you need a Sewer Pass. The free claim for Sewer Passes opens on January 17. Only BAYC/MAYC holders can claim Sewer Passes, but anyone with a Sewer Pass can play.”

Sewer Pass Holders to Play Dookey Dash

Explicitly, the tokens derived from the free mint are required to unlock the Dookey Dash skill-based game the day after the free mint. The Sewer Pass can also be obtained from a secondary NFT marketplace. Both the freely minted and the purchased Sewer Passes will give players access to Dookey Dash until February 8th when it will close even if they don’t own a BAYC NFT.

Within this time frame, Sewer Pass holders are permitted to play the game for an unlimited amount of time, amassing high scores which will be announced on the 15th of February. Such high scores would be needed to give them access to mysterious power sources which are yet to be fully explained. According to BAYC, the final result will “evolve throughout 2023.”

“Sewer Pass holders will compete for the highest score and earn their new power source,” BAYC tweeted. “The highest single-run score on your specific Sewer Pass and accompanying wallet that achieved the run will determine what it reveals.” 

There are suspicions that this gamified strategy of minting NFTs with Dookey Dash is somewhat connected to “The Trial of Jimmy the Monkey,” an animated video that was aired in December last year, and “The Otherside.” So far, nothing has been said about Mecha Apes, a new Yuga Labs NFT collection that was rumored.
