As per a new study by the Australian cryptocurrency exchange, BTC Markets (BTCM), the crypto market does not work on speculations anymore and is more driven by utility. The BTC Investor Study Report examines the data from the BTCM exchange for 2021 with an in-depth analysis divided by demographics (like age, gender, investor type) to anonymously analyze the crypto investment habits among its 320,000 investors.
According to the report, the “crypto queens,” or the female users on the platform, have grown at a much faster pace than the males. The female investors saw a surge of 126%, whereas the growth in male users was 83%. This coincides with a recent study by Arcane Research and Ernst & Young, which reveals that female crypto investors in Norway doubled in the past year.
It is highly evident that, like every major industry, crypto also sees a major gender gap among investors. The new report reveals that the most significant influx of new users for BTCM last year came from the “Mature wealth accumulators” in Australia, who range between 45 and 59 years of age. Caroline Bowler, the CEO of the exchange, finds the trend encouraging, owing to the cautious risk appetite of the mentioned age group as they start their preparation for retirement. She adds:
“They bring a wealth of experience in traditional investment markets and their decision to invest in crypto is not driven by the fear of missing out (FOMO) but on strategic research and information.”
Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) were the most traded tokens on the BTCM platform in 2021, according to BTC Markets, while Tether (USDT) was a new arrival in the top five traded cryptocurrencies. Daily orders grew by 42 percent, while the average value of trades performed on the platform increased by 48 percent. In addition, the platform’s average trade volume also increased by 118 percent. The considerable growth, according to BTC Markets, is attributable to a bigger number of investors realizing the value of crypto.
