Crypto venture capitalist Digital Currency Group (DCG) has submitted a lobbying registration form to the House of Representatives and Senate. According to details on the filing, DCG has requested that Julie Stitzel, who is its current Vice President of Public Policy, becomes the firm’s Lobbyist.
Julie Stitzel will negotiate with the United States Federal Government in the interest of DCG. She had worked with Block’s Cash App as the Bitcoin (BTC) policy Lead before she eventually got onboarded on the DCG train.
The decision to choose Julie was informed by her exceptional expertise and leadership in promoting crypto policy. She was recently recognized for these traits by award-winning new media outfit ‘The Information’ and listed amongst the Crypto Fixers.
Digital Currency Group is the owner of Grayscale Investment, one of the giant startups in the blockchain industry. It is regarded as one of the most dominant venture capital firms in the industry with over 150 crypto firms under its jurisdiction.
As part of the filing, the DCG mission was stated as to “Support bitcoin & blockchain companies by leveraging insights, network & access to capital.”
Previously, DCG has been involved in lobbying with external companies like Klein Johnson Group and Capitol Counsel.
Around the summer and fall of 2021, records showed that over $120,000 was spent on contracts with a few of these external companies. However, this is its first in-house gig and is an indication that advancement is taking place in DCG’s lobbying actions.
With this first direct attempt, DCG is gradually rolling into the lobbying space. Eventually, it would be a win-win situation for the crypto ecosystem seeing that DCG is a major player in the space. The crypto VC’s investment cuts across Circle, Coinbase, and Grayscale Asset Management amongst many others.
As of the time of this writing, no valuation had been attached to this in-house lobbying exercise. Instead, fingers are crossed waiting to see if it would be disclosed in the next quarter’s earnings report from the firm.
Generally, the crypto lobbying ecosystem has experienced significant growth globally. So far, about $6.8 billion was recorded to have been spent in the industry. In all of this Coinbase, who recently issued a statement on the brewing Nomad heist, is the major spender on lobbying efforts.
