A close look at the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation’s (DTCC) website shows that BTCO, which is the ticker for Invesco and Galaxy’s spot Bitcoin (BTC) Exchange Traded Fund (ETF), has been listed.
While the ticker listing under the “ETF Products” on the DTCC’s site does not signify an impending approval, it marks a step forward in Invesco and Galaxy’s BTC ETF application process with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Moreso, a representative of DTCC confirmed that such listings are standard practices. It was precisely explained that securities are required to be added on the NSCC security eligibility file in order to prepare them for the launch of a new EFT.
As of October 25th, BTCO was nowhere in sight on the clearing house’s site, therefore, this suggests that the ETF was listed within the last six days.
Markedly, the Invesco Galaxy ETF was relaunched on June 21st amid a trend of similar applications which started with top investment asset management firm BlackRock lodging an application for a spot BTC ETF. However, by August 31st, the SEC decided to postpone the decision on the applications of seven candidates including the Invesco Galaxy ETF.
This meant that a decision was not expected until October but this has not been the case as the regulator has pushed further its decision on the applications. This action has left many industry experts speculating that the spot BTC ETF approval will come in 2024. Bloomberg ETF analysts Eric Balchunas and James Seyffart sees a 90% possibility of having the SEC approve the new offering.
Amidst these speculations and delay, iShares BTC ETF by BlackRock got listed on DTCC website under the ticker symbol IBTC. This made the BlackRock ETF the first to make it to the DTCC list.
The Invesco Galaxy BTCO is another ETF that has made it to the DTCC list. One of the major moves which BlackRock has made in preparation for the SEC approval on its spot Bitcoin ETF is going public its plan to seed the iShares Bitcoin ETF. The bold move was included in the recent amendment of its Bitcoin ETF filing.
