Jump Crypto Partners Solana to Build a Second Validator Client

Jump Crypto, a leader in Web3 infrastructure design, is working on building a new validator client for the Solana blockchain. This makes Jump Crypto, the first firm to build a validator for the network outside of the Solana team.

The project will be written in C++ and will be led by Kevin Bowers, a former researcher at UC Berkeley and executive at Jump Crypto. This will also be in collaboration with Solana Foundation.

Jump Crypto’s version of the validator will coexist with that of the Solana team already in use. The new validator will help scale up the adoption of the Solana blockchain as well as contribute to its technical enhancement and decentralization.

In addition to the new validator client, Jump will also be working on upgrades to the network’s open-source core software. According to Dan Albert, executive director at the Solana Foundation, Jump’s 20 years of experience in scaling networks makes it an excellent contributor to the Solana protocol.

This collaboration isn’t the first for both firms. Jump Crypto was an investor in Solana’s bridge, Wormhole. It offered to bailout the ecosystem after the bridge suffered a $350 million exploit back in February. 

The move helped prevent long-term damage to the blockchain. Jump has also invested in several Solana Based projects.

Summarily, Jump will deploy its expertise in innovative ways of solving complex networking issues to boost Solana’s scalability and reliability thereby onboarding the next billion users.

Better days ahead for Solana

Although the project is an ambitious undertaking, it could help Solana move past the hacks and outages that have plagued its growth in recent times resulting in criticism from the crypto community.

Earlier in August, a malicious actor drained funds from over 7500 hot wallets on Solana. Over $5.2 million in digital assets was stolen in the attack.

The network has also suffered numerous outages lasting over five hours during the year resulting in the halting of production of new blocks. After its most recent outage, Solana called on its validators to restart the network.
