Magic Eden Blames Third-party Cacher For Adult Content on Marketplace

Solana-based Non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace Magic Eden has assured its users that the disturbing and unsavory contents which they witnessed on the platform were a result of a compromised third-party image cacher. Additionally, the platform assured the users of the safety of their digital collectibles, clarifying that its platform was not hacked as alleged by popular opinions

The Twitter post by Magic Eden stated; “Hey guys our image provider, a 3rd party service we use to cache images, was compromised. Your NFTs are safe and Magic Eden has not been hacked. Unfortunately, you might’ve seen some um, unsavory images. Make sure you do a hard refresh on your browser to fix it.”

Magic Eden does not believe that it was the sole target of the third-party cacher hack; instead, it says other websites may have been victims of the same misfortune. As it stands, the Solana platform has refused to state the name of this particular third-party cacher allegedly due to security reasons.

According to certain users who saw the contents, it turned out to contain pornographic content including scenes from the TV series “The Big Bang Theory.” 

One Magic Eden user identified as Clown posted on Twitter “Anyone else seeing the characters from the series Big Bang Theory very quickly while loading their items on Magic Eden? WTH did I just witness  @MagicEden.”

The NFT marketplace said it has fixed the malfunction but some users are still seeing the nude images and may, therefore, need to refresh their browsers. The ‘hard’ refresh would entail that users clear out the browser cache and then reload a current version of the page.

Magic Eden Encourages Creators With Offerings

Before this third-party hack struck, the NFT marketplace, valued at $1.6 billion, had been doing well, securing several funding last year. 

At the beginning of the second half of 2022, Magic Eden launched Magic Ventures, an investment arm of the marketplace. Magic Ventures which was introduced to boost and expand Web3.0 gaming led to the recruitment of more employees.

Almost at the close of 2022, Magic Eden joined other NFT marketplaces like OpenSea to roll out a suite of tools to enforce creation fees known as royalties into the hands of creators of new NFTs collection.
