In partnership with Malaysia, Women In Blockchain Asia (WIBA) has announced the introduction of blockchain programmer courses precisely for women in seven Malaysian universities. The first cohort of these women-centered blockchain courses has been rolled out already.
Attracting women to digital assets and blockchain technology is gradually taking preeminence in the crypto industry. Many countries and crypto firms are putting structures and solutions in place to entice women into Web3.0 as well as the Metaverse.
So far, the participating universities are Asia Pacific University, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Raffles College of Higher Education, and Universiti Malaysia Sabah.
Ordinarily, WIBA collaborates with REACH, a developmental blockchain platform, and is supported by the Algorand Foundation which provides its blockchain technology. With both participants, WIBA is able to equip and educate more female blockchain developers and programmers in Malaysia.
Together, they came up with the WIBA Algorand REACH Smart Contract Training program.
The blockchain programmer courses will be offered under the WIBA Algorand REACH Smart Contract Training program.
For now, no payment is required as it is free for students of all participating universities. The program would run for two months and so far over 150 students have shown interest and have gone ahead to sign up for the course. No application is being accepted at this time since the application window was fixed for September 4.
This is the first of its kind in Malaysia since its engagement in the blockchain ecosystem. Ivy Fung, a founding member of WIBA spearheading the initiative affirmed this fact.
“This is the first-ever initiative in Malaysia focused on increasing the number of female blockchain builders in Malaysia, and we are excited by the response we have had thus far. The programme will involve online tutorials and discussions, followed by an intervarsity hackathon at the end of the course,” Ivy said.
Earlier this year, Animoca Brands’ The Sandbox (SAND) metaverse announced that it has partnered with the NFT community World of Women for the launch of the trending WoW Foundation that aims to increase women’s representation in the industry. Industry billionaire, Tim Draper once analyzed the prominent role women play in the Bitcoin (BTC) market claiming that women “control around 80% of retail spending”.
By and large, as more blockchain opportunities come their way, women are also exploring their options.
