Sao Paulo, one of Brazil’s most successful soccer clubs and the love of many soccer game lovers, has allowed its fans to buy match tickets with digital tokens. By the move, it became the first team in the country to do so.

The 22-time winner of Brazil’s top soccer league has decided to solidify its position in the crypto space. As TheCoinRise reported, Sao Paulo joined hands with crypto exchange platform Bitso several months ago, and under the agreement, the exchange will act as the club’s sponsor for the next three years.

As per the reports, the two parties promoted their partnership by allowing Sao Paulo fans to purchase home match tickets with cryptocurrencies. The team reportedly has a long list of accepted cryptocurrencies, and Shiba Inu is one of them.

Interestingly, the first fan to buy a soccer match ticket with crypto, Fabio Gloeden Brum, chose the first cryptocurrency in the world, Bitcoin. Brum is rewarded with an NFT commemorating the historical purchase.

Notably, in the initial phase, the offering will be available only to the registered fans with membership cards. However, the club has planned to introduce the system to the remaining supporters in the coming days.

Soccer teams and Bitso

Sao Paulo is not the first soccer team to partner with Bitso. The exchange has several soccer teams as its partners. Earlier in 2022, Mexico’s seven-time champion – Tigres – joined hands with Bitso to support Bitcoin as a payment method for tickets related to entertainment events. Mauricio Culebro Galván, the club president, said that similar crypto endeavors would follow in the coming days. He added at the time:

“Tigres continues to look to the future, and new initiatives will surely come with Bitso to continue offering greater services.”

Moreover, the professional sports club based in Cornellà de Llobregat, Spain, RCD Espanyol, also partnered with Bitso to allow fans to buy game tickets, merchandise, food, and beverages with cryptocurrencies in the upcoming season of La Liga.

In March, the governing body behind major international soccer tournaments, Fifa, partnered with Crypto.com. With the move, the exchange became Fifa’s brand new official sponsor for its upcoming World Cup in Qatar.
