Blockchain Education Gain Prominence Amongst Tertiary Institutions

Crypto mainstream adoption is gradually pushing its fort into universities and other tertiary institutions globally.

As the world gradually moves towards the nascent industry which provides advanced payment alternatives to the traditional financial system amongst its other offerings, many crypto enthusiasts are interested in gaining more knowledge about digital assets and the blockchain.

On this basis, universities are making allowances in their curriculum to include crypto and blockchain-related courses. Data from a Study.com research published last year revealed that a major percentage, up to 64% of American parents and college students who are familiar with cryptocurrencies think that the subject should be taught in schools as a mandatory field.

Out of the 800 respondents in the Study.com survey, 40% resounded the need for blockchain to be taught in their children’s schools. Additionally, the Metaverse and Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) were also mentioned as possible university courses but with lesser enthusiasm in comparison to cryptocurrencies. A few parents asked that architecture and art history should be substituted for crypto education.

Some of these parents went as far as arguing the most suitable grade for introducing the teachings. While one-fourth of the parents think that their children can start their crypto and blockchain education in high school, some think that middle school is more suitable. It is however noteworthy that many of these parents are already crypto investors in various capacities.

Blockchain Education Pushes Crypto Adoption

It was shortly after this time that Women In Blockchain Asia (WIBA) tapped seven Malaysian universities to offer blockchain programmer courses for free.

The participating universities are Pacific University, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Raffles College of Higher Education, and Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

For a start, the blockchain programmer program which was scheduled to hold for two months received applications from more than 150 female students.

Also, sometime last year BNB Chain collaborated with the Blockchain Center of the University of Zurich to develop a section of the course on fundamental blockchain concepts and host an NFT workshop. At the time, BNB Chain considered it as a strategy to boost the development of blockchain technology.
