South Park shows the future accepting only Bitcoin payment

The trending animated TV series, South Park which frequently covers current events with a comic slant, depicted Bitcoin as a dominant payment method in the not-too-distant future.

On Thursday, the show aired the awaited “Post COVID” episode from its 24th season, which showed one of the show’s characters, Stan Marsh, paying for a stay in a motel using Bitcoin. South Park set the plot around 40 years from now when the Covid pandemic is humorously about to end, and practically all company names contain “plus” and “maxx.” The fictional Super 12 Motel Plus exclusively allows “Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies” as the payment option, and Marsh is shown paying the amount with a plastic card with the BTC logo and a QR code.

The motel clerk states:

“It’s the future — we’ve all decided centralized banking is rigged, so we trust more in fly-by-night Ponzi schemes.”

South Park targets the government’s decentralized system

Many investors in the crypto industry are aware of South Park’s criticism of the US government and banks’ response to the 2008 financial crisis, which led to a famous meme “aaaand… it’s gone.” The meme refers to Marsh losing all his money just after depositing it in a bank. 

Many shows and celebrities have entered the market, promoting and spreading awareness about digital assets. Recently, as TheCoinRise reported, famous rapper Post Malone promoted the popular NFT project Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) in his music video named “One Right Now.” This year, the famous TV series The Blacklist also mentioned Bitcoin as the show depicted James Spader’s character knowing the true identity of Satoshi. Famous Sitcom The Simpsons also showed the Bitcoin price moving to infinity.
